After 5 long years, U2 are back with their new album "No Line on the Horizon". I bought the original CD from Music World, Spencer Plaza, Chennai. Here I am sharing the review of the album.
The cover art of the album is a greyish photo of some calm water body, symbolizing peace and vastness. It seems to be the reflection of how everyone's heart should be.
1. No Line on the Horizon
The song is bit fast paced and with Bono's signature voice, it is a treat for the ears after missing him for a long time. The theme is much like the album art. About the unpredictable nature of human heart and the emotions that flow out of us.
2. Magnificent
In terms of lyrics, this is the best song. Very short in lyrical content, but made me cry... So powerful. The Edge's guitar worth a mention. The guitar sounds like "With or Without You" and "The City of Blinding Lights". So those who love guitar in Edge's style, will surely like this song.
3. Moment of Surrender
Another soul touching song. Adam Clayton's bass steals the show. The song is slow and melodic. Bono touches the unknown depths of heart when he sings chorus. This song is the one I listen to every night for the last 2 weeks.
4. Unknown Caller
This song is some what ok. The lyrics are bit abstract and couldn't get the feel of what is expressed while hearing it. That's ok, we can't ask for 11 out of 11.
5. I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight
The song is much like a pop song reminding us "Sunday Bloody Sunday". Nice to hear. I hear this song while travelling to office. Good one. But the lyrical theme seems to be bit redundant.
6. Get On Your Boots
Seems like a song about a struggle for liberation. I tend to link this to feminism or something that sort. Fast paced and much like a pop song again.
7. Stand Up Comedy
This song doesn't sound like U2 song... Even Bono's voice sounds different. But wait. It is awesome. It sounds like some other rock band. But really really nice. Lyrics is good. Over all U2's alien touch.
8. Fez - Being Born
If some of your friends ask what is bass guitar, play them this song. Adam Clayton's bass dominates this song. The lyrical theme and voice are not so legible. Kind of ok. This is one of the songs I hear least in this album.
9. White as Snow
Wanna hear a song that soothes you after a tiring day's work while you are sitting in a crowded bus back to home? This is the song for you. The guitar and Bono's voice just transfer the lyrics right to your sub-concious memory. Awesome!!!
10. Breathe
Heard "Miracle Drug"? This is the heavy version of Miracle Drug. I love them both, but prefer the softer one ;-) The lyrics is not that vivid as Miracle Drug, but song is all about not hiding yourself and being true to yourself in expressing your emotions.
11. Cedars of Lebanon
As the first song, this song is also a reflection of the cover art. The lyrics talk about the hunger for peace which is affecting both the rich and poor alike. Particularly this song is against wars and violence that affects millions of lives. Cedars of Lebanon have Biblical significance, which makes the title a perfect fit.
If you are a lover of good music, this album is a must have for you. But if you are a U2 fan, then not buying this album is counted as crime. So be careful before you decide not to buy this album.
